The Student Agrees to:
- Approach the clinical placement opportunity as though it is a job, demonstrating full commitment to and investment in the resident's/client's daily care program
- Discuss job performance expectations with the preceptor(s)
- Maintain open and honest communication with host facility's nurse in-charge, preceptor and College's Clinical Instructor
- Share any feelings of discomfort or concerns regarding expectations or occurrences with the host facility's Residence Supervisor and College's Instructor
- Follow all host facility policies, procedures and rules, including confidentiality
- Be respectful of dress code, proper language, etc., of the workplace
- Be reliable and responsible by negotiating clinical practice hours/days, etc., with the host facility's Supervisor and inform the College Instructor of any changes
- Accept responsibility for their own learning experience by taking initiative and showing an interest and enthusiasm for the daily tasks
- Inform the host facility's Supervisor and College Instructor of any change in personal information (i.e. address, telephone number, etc.)
- Secure that weekly Clinical Placement Attendance Time Sheets are signed by host facility
- Attend meetings arranged between the host facility's Supervisor and the Clinical Instructor as required

What should I wear to my Clinical Practice?
Wear proper attire at your clinical practice (uniform, shoes, ID badge, etc). However do not wear your uniform while traveling as it may get dirty. Have a small notebook and pen with you for taking notes as well.
How do I input my hours?
Input your hours by signing in and signing out of the Sign-in book. Make 2 entries if working double shifts.
When should I arrive for my shift?
Arrive 10 - 15 mins early and change into proper attire.
What should I do when I arrive for my shift?
After changing into proper attire, go to the assigned floor and attend the endorsement meeting. Find the preceptor. If unsure, ask the nurse in-charge.
What are some general good practices to keep in mind?
Use what you learned in class to make your own judgments about best practices, habits, etc. Take good practices and disregard the bad ones. Do not confront the preceptor but speak to the Clinical Instructor instead.
How do I feed the resident?
When feeding a resident, you should be level with them. This will reduce the potential risk of choking.
What do I do if a resident tries giving me a gift?
Any gifts given to students must be reported to the preceptor/nurse and the Clinical Instructor. Failing to do so may lead to accusations of stealing from the resident.
How can I prevent illness/outbreak while on practice?
Follow full precautions and use all necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Always follow proper hand hygiene.
How do I deliver medications to a resident?
You may only assist the resident with their medications. You may also only give medications if the nurse is supervising.
What should I do on my breaks?
Ensure to inform the preceptor when going on breaks. Do not leave the facility. Bring your own lunch to clinical practice.
How are my Clinical Practices scheduled?
You must arrange your clinical practice schedule with Rose beforehand. If you cannot make a scheduled shift, you must notify Rose prior to the start of the shift. DO NOT go to the facility unless scheduled by Rose.
What is the purpose of Instructor Meetings?
Instructor meetings provide the opportunity to address any questions you may have, discuss your experience, and evaluate the understanding of skills that you have not performed during Clinical Practice.
